Warranty Coverage — Plain English
We pulled the actual warranty documents and translated them into terms that actually make sense. No legal jargon, no fine print surprises.
A lot of window companies lead with "lifetime warranty" without explaining what that actually means. The honest answer: it depends on who owns the home, how long you've owned it, and which part of the window failed. Here's exactly what's covered on each Pella line we install.

The Details
What's actually covered — and what's not
Read this before buying. Most warranty claims are denied because of things in this list — not because Pella doesn't cover them, but because homeowners didn't know about the conditions.
✅ What is covered
These are the defects Pella will repair, replace, or refund for.
✓Frame defects in materials or workmanshipCracking, splitting, warping, or deterioration due to a manufacturing defect — not normal wear.
✓Failed glass seal (fogging between panes)If your insulated glass unit fails and causes permanent fogging, that's covered for 20 years on vinyl and fiberglass.
✓Hardware defectsLocks, cranks, hinges, and other hardware that fail due to a manufacturing defect are covered for 10 years.
✓Wood deterioration (Lifestyle Series)Wood rot or deterioration due to manufacturing defect is covered under the lifetime warranty — not normal weathering without proper maintenance.
✓Exterior finish cracking or peelingAluminum cladding paint that cracks or peels in non-coastal environments is covered for 10 years on Lifestyle Series.
✓Termite damage (Lifestyle Series)Specifically included — termite damage is covered under the Lifestyle Series warranty.
⚠️ Important conditions to know
These are the warranty conditions that catch homeowners off guard most often.
⚠Lifestyle Series — wood maintenance mattersMost Lifestyle windows arrive pre-finished or primed from the factory. Pella's warranty excludes damage from failing to properly finish or maintain the wood over time. Keep up with cleaning and touch up the finish as needed to protect your coverage.
⚠Labor is only covered for 2 yearsAfter 2 years, Pella will provide replacement parts but won't cover the cost of installation. You pay labor after year two.
⚠Lifetime warranty is not transferable as-isWhen you sell your home, the lifetime warranty converts to a 10-year warranty starting from the original purchase date — not the sale date.
⚠You must notify Pella within 1 year of discovering a defectEven if you're within the warranty period, waiting more than 1 year after discovering a problem can void the claim.
⚠Installation must follow Pella's instructionsIf a defect is related to improper installation, the warranty can be voided. This is why Pella-certified installation matters.
⚠Coastal homes (within 2 miles of coast) have different coverageExterior paint coverage changes significantly for seacoast environments. If you're near a Great Lake shoreline, check this carefully.
✕ What is not covered (all series)
These exclusions apply across all three product lines. Most are common sense, but a few are worth knowing upfront.
Normal wear and fading over time
Accidental glass breakage
Damage from high indoor humidity (condensation, mold)
After-market window films applied to glass
Damage from improper cleaning chemicals or solvents
Products modified without Pella's approval
Hardware finish discoloration (the finish on locks/handles)
Screen damage from normal use or wear
Water infiltration due to improper wall design
Damage from acts of God or structural settlement
Products not paid for in full
Trim or carpentry work around replaced windows
